A court in Naogaon has sentenced an elderly man to life imprisonment on the charge of killing his wife at Dhamoirhat upazila in 2021.

Naogaon District and Sessions Judge Abu Shamim handed down the verdict on Sunday afternoon.

The convict is Lubin Baske, 75, a resident of Bheram Sondighi village in the upazila.

The court also fined him Tk 1 lakh, in default, he will have to suffer two years more in jail.

According to the prosecution, Lubin indiscriminately struck his wife Maloti Rani’s head and other body parts with a baton at one stage of an altercation on December 28, 2021, leaving her dead on the spot.

A case was filed against him with Dhamoirhat Police Station in this regard.

After that, police submitted a charge-sheet against Lubin to the court on August 24, 2022, after an investigation.

The court on Sunday pronounced the verdict after taking the testimony of nine witnesses.
