Elderly man killed in BNP factional clash in Jhenaidah

A sexagenarian person was killed and four others injured in a fierce clash between two factions of Bangladesh nationalist Party (BNP) at Nakobaria village under Kaliganj upazila in Jhenaidah district. The incident took place on Sunday morning.

Additional police forces were deployed to tackle the situation. The deceased was identified as Mahabbat Hossain, 61, of the mentioned village. He was an activist of BNP.

The clash originated over establishing supremacy in the area as there had been prevailing a long standing altercation between the two groups of party men, said the locals and police.

Locals and police said, following a trifling mater both the groups were locked in the clash with Ramda, lethal and sharp weapons leaving five persons injured.

They were rushed to Kaliganj upazila health complex, while the attending physicians referred critically injured Mohabbat Hossain to Faridpur medical college hospital. He succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon while undergoing treatment.

Kaliganj police station officer in charge (OC) Shaidul Hawlader said, “We have brought the situation under control and deployed additional police in the area to avert further untoward incidents.”
