Lalmonirhat Correspondent:
Police have recovered a woman’s body from a paddy field at Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat district on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Abeda Khatun, 65, wife of the late Siratul Haque, a resident of Bankanda area of the upazila.
According to locals, Abeda went to sleep in her house on Tuesday night. In the morning, her family members started looking for her when they couldn’t find her in her room.
At around 8:00 AM, locals saw her body lying about 300 metres from her house.
Locals also added that she had been suffering from a brain stroke for 7 to 8 years and had mental health issues since then. She would often leave the house without informing her family. Later, family members and locals would search for her and bring her back home.
It is suspected that she went out of the house during heavy rain, slipped and fell in the paddy field next to the road when her nose and mouth were covered in mud, leading to her death.
Confirming the death, Patgram Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman said, “Her family members informed us that the elderly woman was mentally unstable. As there was no complaint from the family, the body has been handed over to them.”
