Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul has announced on Thursday that the date for the upcoming national election will be declared within a few days.

Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat on legal reforms and current political issues, he said, “All necessary preparations have been completed to ensure citizens can exercise their voting rights. An official announcement will come shortly.”

He questioned the legitimacy of the 2008 national election, saying, “Contrary to popular belief, there is scope for scrutiny. Journalists willing to investigate will find alarming information about that election.”

Highlighting the government’s reform agenda, he said significant progress has been made in legal, institutional, and digital reforms.

He also noted that the Law Ministry has recommended the withdrawal of nearly 16,000 politically motivated cases, which has provided relief to hundreds of thousands of political activists and independent voices.

Dr. Nazrul expressed optimism that these reforms would be preserved by future administrations.
