Environment Department has imposed fine at Tk 1 lakh to Riya Auto-rice Mills in Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj district on charge of damaging crops of local farmers.
Syed Farhat Hossain, Director (Joint Secretary) of Environment Department’s Monitoring and Enforcement Unit issued the order on Sunday after completion a hearing in presence of complainant SM Sohag Sarker and Mill’s authorities.
According to the sources, Bismillah Auto-rice Mill was set up on arable land illegally and had been running production flouting the environmental rules causing huge damage of crops in the surrounding areas.
On the basis of a written complaint, the environment department has taken the move for the sake of farmers.
