Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul has said that even Pakistani occupation forces did not commit as heinous crimes in 1971 as Sheikh Hasina did during the July uprising last year.

“Even striking an unarmed or wounded person on a battlefield constitutes a war crime, but the fascist Awami League government indiscriminately fired upon and killed people during the mass uprising,” he said while addressing an event in Dhaka on Tuesday (July 29).

“Those who do not pursue justice for these crimes will be accountable to Allah,” he added.

Nazrul further said, “No injustice or negligence was committed in the trial of the mass killing that occurred during the July uprising. There is no lack of sincerity regarding justice, Allah is my witness.”

“Even after such a massive mass killing, the fascists show no remorse and are still conspiring,” he further said.

He also noted their commitment to reforming the justice system.

“We will leave behind irrefutable evidence in such a way that no government, even if it wishes, will be able to show leniency in the mass killing trial,” he concluded.

The discussion event, titled “July Mass Killing Trial: Discussion and Documentary Screening,” was organised by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs at the Judicial Training Institute in the capital.

The event was part of the government’s July Reawakening programmes. It also included a screening of the documentary Trial of July Carnage, and prayers for those killed in the uprising and in the fighter jet crash at Milestone School and College.
