The court in Sirajganj on Wednesday granted a three-day remand against Dr. Abdul Aziz, former Member of Parliament for Sirajganj-3 (Raiganj-Tarash) constituency in a case of attacking students’ procession and the Explosive Substances Act.
Ivin Akhter, Judge of the Tarash Amli (Administrative) Court granted the remand when he was produced before the Court by police along with a five-day remand plea.
The complaint in the case states that, on August 4, during the anti-discrimination students’ movement, students gathered in front of GKS Government Primary School in Tarash Upazila. At that time, Awami League leaders and activists, including Ex-MP Abdul Aziz, attacked the students with sticks, foreign pistols and iron rods. They also exploded cocktail during the time. Several students, including coordinator Sabbir Khandaker, were also injured in the attack.
In this incident, Sabbir Khandaker’s father Saiful Khandaker filed a case with Tarash Police Station against Awami League leaders and activists making former MP Abdul Aziz the main accused. The police applied for a 5-day remand in the court for questioning Abdul Aziz in this regard.
It is worth mentioning that RAB members arrested former MP Abdul Aziz from Kalabagan area in Dhaka on the night of February 3 in a case filed in connection with the cocktail explosion and attack on the convoy of former BNP-nominated MP Abdul Mannan Talukder of Sirajganj-3 constituency and.
Abdul Aziz was released from Sirajganj District Jail on the night of April 8. When he came out of the jail, agitating students beat him up and handed over to Sirajganj Sadar Police Station again. Later, the police sent him to jail on a fresh case filed on Explosive Substances Act and also attempt to murder.
