Ex- Barishal-2 MP Alam on 7-day remand

A Dhaka court has placed former Barishal-2 lawmaker Shah-E-Alam on three-day remand in a case filed on charge of killing college student at Gulshan during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan passed the order after police produced Alam before the court and sought seven-day remand in the case.

Earlier, a mob detained the former lawmaker on September 14 and handed him over to Gulshan police.

According to the case documents, Md Naimur Rahman, 22, a student of Gulshan Degree College joined the movement in front of Subastu Nazar Valley shopping mall on July 19.

Awami League activists attacked the procession, opened fire at protesters at around 4pm, leaving many people, including Naimur, injured.

He was taken to nearby AMZ Hospital in Badda where he succumbed to his injuries.

Naimur’s father Khalilur Rahman filed a case against 64, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, over the killing on September 12.

The other accused in the case are Hasina’s younger sister Sheikh Rehana, Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Nur-e Alam Chowdhury Liton, Mojibur Rahman, Nasrul Hamid Chowdhury Bipu and Mohammad A Arafat.
