Former Grameen Bank chairman AKM Saiful Majid and 18 others were sued today on charges of forcibly occupying the Grameen Telecom office in Dhaka’s Mirpur-1 in February.
Nazmul Islam, managing director of Grameen Telecom, filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaque.
After a hearing, the magistrate recorded the complainant’s statement, took cognisance of the charges, and instructed the officer-in-charge of Shah Ali Police Station to register the complaint as a First Information Report.
Barrister Masood Akhtar; JIM Zubayer, consultant of Masood Akhtar and Associates; senior principal officers Harun Ar Rashid, Md Tariqul Islam and Md Golam Zakaria; deputy general managers Abdul Quddus, Mamunur Rashid and Krishna Kanta Roy; Prodip Kumar Saha, deputy managing director; Abdur Rashid, member of research and development; and Foyjul Haque, assistant general manager, are among the accused as well.
According to the case statement, Saiful Majid and others accused, especially officials and employees from the Grameen Head Office of Mirpur-2, went to the Grameen Telecom Office on the Zoo Road at Mirpur-1 and vandalised the valuables which were kept at the office.
Earlier on November 10, Saiful Majid and 18 others were also sued on charges of attacking employees and forcibly occupying the Grameen Telecom building at Mirpur-2 in February.
AKM Moinuddin Chowdhury, managing director of Grameen Kalyan, filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Bhadra.
