A Narsingdi court has sent former Industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun to jail after rejecting a remand plea filed by police in a murder case.
The court of Narsingdi Judicial Magistrate Rakibul Islam gave this order today (25 September) after the investigating officer presented Nurul Majid in court with a 5-day remand plea.
Khandaker Halim, the lawyer for the accused, told reporters that Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun was not present at the scene of the murder. Besides, considering his age, the court refused to place him in remand and ordered him to be sent to prison.
Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, who is the former Member of Parliament of Narsingdi-4 Constituency, was arrested from his Gulshan residence yesterday (24 September) night, confirmed ANM Emran Khan, assistant director of RAB Legal and Media wing.
Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun has been arrested in a case filed at Madhabdi police station of Narsingdi in connection with the death of a labour leader named Jahangir Hossain in an attack and clash during the protest of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement programme in Madhabdi on 4 August.
