A case has been filed against 1,200 leaders and activists Awami League (AL), including former Rajshahi City Corporation mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, over the death of Shibir leader Rayhan Ali during the Quota Reform Movement.
Rana Islam, brother of deceased Rayhan, lodged the case with Boalia Model Police Station on Monday night mentioning the names of 50 AL men.
According to the case statement, the AL leaders and workers led by AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and city unit general secretary Dablu Sarker suddenly opened fire indiscriminately and blasted bombs from point blank indiscriminately on the large rally of the students-people at Alupatty area around 1.30 pm on August 5.
Scores of students, including Rayhan Ali, Maruf Mourtoza, Ibrahim Ali, maruf Al Hassan and Mehedi Hassan, sustained bullet-wounds in the attack. They were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for treatment, where Rayhan Ali succumbed to his injuries on August 8.
