A court in Sirajganj on Wednesday placed the much-discussed former Parliament Member of Sirajganj-2 Constituency Jannat Ara Talukder Henry and her husband former Zilla Parishad Chairman Shamim Talukder Labu on a-seven-day remand in a murder case.
Russel Talukder, Senior Judicial Magistrate of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Sirajganj passed the order, as police produced them before the court along with a-10-day remand plea.
Earlier on Monday, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-9 forces arrested the coupled from Borshijorra area in Moulvibazar district, where they had been remained hiding since after fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.
The arrestees were produced before the court in a case filed with Sirajganj Sadar police station over killing of Jubo Dal District Unit’s Vice-President Sohanur Rahman Ranju and others during the Anti-discrimination Students’ Movement.
The defence, however, pleaded to cancel the remand petitions and allow them bail in the case.
After hearing, the court denied the bail petition and issued the remand order for seven days.
Police said, the coupled were arrested in four cases. Of them, three cases were lodged with the Sirajganj Sadar thana for murder and another for possessing arms illegally.
According to the sources, three BNP and Jubo Dal leaders were killed during the Anti-discrimination Students’ Movement. Centering the incidents, the cases were lodged with the respective police station accusing over 900 people including Henry and her husband Labu.
Mousumi Khatun, wife of slain Jubo Dal leader Sohanur Rahman Ranju, Saleha Begum, sister of BNP activist Abdul Latif, who resided in Goyla area of the town and Ganjer Ali Sheikh, father of slain Sumon Mian of the same village filed the cases, police said.
On the other hand, police filed another case for keeping arms and ammunitions in their possessions despite the government directive of submitting those to the authorities concerned in time.
Earlier on Thursday last, a court in Dhaka imposed travel ban on Jannat Ara Talukder Henry, her husband Shamim Talukder Labu and foster daughter Muntaha Ridayi Lam responding to an application filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
On Wednesday (September 18), ACC Assistant Director Asif Al Mahmud submitted an application to the court seeking a ban on the departure of three persons.
