A Correspondent, Jhenaidah:

A Jhenaidah court has granted a four-day remand for Nayeb Ali Joarder, former member of parliament for Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa), in two separate cases.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Rumana Afroze granted the remand after Joarder was presented in court at 9:30am on Friday.

Jhenaidah Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shaheen Uddin said: “We requested a 10-day remand for former MP Nayeb Ali Joarder. The court granted a four-day remand in two cases, but he will be interrogated for four days concurrently, not separately.”

Arrested by RAB on Thursday

Nayeb Ali Joarder was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at around midnight on Thursday from the Arappur Bus Stand area in Jhenaidah.

Major Naeem Ahmed, commander of RAB-6 in Jhenaidah, said that two cases of sabotage were filed on August 19 and August 24 in connection with the arson attacks on the district BNP office and the residence of the party’s president. Nayeb Ali Joarder was listed as the prime accused in both cases.

Acting on a tip-off that Joarder was staying at his residence in the Arappur Jamtala area, members of RAB and the army conducted a raid and arrested him late Thursday night. He was later handed over to Sadar police station.

This arrest follows a wave of detentions of former ministers, MPs, and advisors after Sheikh Hasina resigned on August 5 amid an uprising led by students and civilians.
