Entertainment Desk:
The appointment follows a court order allowing the exhumation to determine the actor’s cause of death, while a separate application seeking to revoke the exhumation order remains on record before the court.
An executive magistrate has been appointed to oversee the exhumation of the remains of film actor Salman Shah from his grave as part of the investigation into his death.
According to an official order issued on 22 June by Additional Deputy Commissioner Pinky Saha of the Sylhet District Magistrate’s Office, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Md Parvez of the Sylhet Deputy Commissioner’s Office has been assigned to perform magistracy duties during the exhumation.
A copy of the office order was sent by post to the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court today (5 July) and has been placed on record.
The order states that the appointment was made in compliance with the order issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on 24 May under Section 176(2) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.
The magistrate will remain present during the exhumation to ensure legal procedures are followed as investigators seek to determine the actual cause of Salman Shah’s death.
Sub-Inspector Shah Alam of the Dhaka Metropolitan Prosecution Division confirmed the development.
Earlier, on 20 May, the investigating officer in the case applied for permission to exhume the actor’s body. On 24 May, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana granted the application, directing that the body be exhumed in the presence of an executive magistrate, followed by the preparation of an inquest report and a post-mortem examination to determine the actual cause of death.
On 23 June, however, the complainant in the case, Mohammad Alamgir (Kumkum), filed an application before the same court seeking to revoke the exhumation order.
The court ordered that the application be placed on record.
The murder case was filed on 20 October last year with Ramna Police Station by Mohammad Alamgir Kumkum on behalf of Salman Shah’s mother, Neela Chowdhury.
The court subsequently ordered an investigation into the allegations.
According to the case statement, Salman Shah’s parents visited his residence in Dhaka’s Eskaton after first going to the Green Road home of the complainant’s sister and brother-in-law. Upon arriving, Salman Shah’s wife, Samira, and a domestic employee told them the actor was sleeping. Film producer Siddiq had also reportedly arrived to meet the actor but left after being told the same.
The case statement states that later that morning, around 11:30am, production manager Selim telephoned Salman Shah’s father, saying something had happened to the actor. When the family rushed to the residence, they found him lying inside his bedroom.
The complaint further alleges that several unidentified women were massaging the actor’s hands and feet with oil, while a woman identified as Ruby was present in the room.
It also alleges that Samira asked Salman Shah’s mother to leave the house. While taking him to Holy Family Hospital, his parents reportedly noticed rope marks around his neck and that his face and legs had turned bluish.
Realising the seriousness of the situation, they took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors informed them that Salman Shah had died some time earlier.
