IN SHORT
Brand Pushpa is making a comeback and how! Telugu superstar Allu Arjun and director Sukumar’s Pushpa 2: The Rule is all set for a grand worldwide release on December 5. While Pushpa fans eagerly await the highly anticipated sequel to hit theatres, we revisit Pushpa 1: The Rise and the premise it set for Part 2.
ENDING OF PUSHPA: THE RISE
What seemed like a fairy-tale ending for Pushpa Raj (played by Allu Arjun), a daily-wage labourer who chances upon an opportunity to enter the red sandalwood smuggling business, was actually the beginning of a war, setting the stage for a larger story that fans will witness in Pushpa 2: The Rule. The first installment ended with SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat (played by Fahadh Faasil) seething with anger and insult after the humiliating confrontation with Pushpa Raj.
The last few minutes of Pushpa 1 featured a bloody confrontation between Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, the newly appointed district police superintendent, and Pushpa Raj. Pushpa, who was all set to marry his Srivalli (played by Rashmika Mandanna), was in no mood to let go of Shekhawat’s insult about his parentage. In their first meeting, Bhanwar insulted and taunted him about being born to a father who used his mother for sexual purposes.
Pushpa complies but delivers a chilling monologue about his rise from poverty to power, warning Bhanwar Singh for underestimating him. The SP, though initially dismissive, begins to recognise Pushpa’s potential threat. Following the climax confrontation scene, a blood-soaked Pushpa enters the wedding venue, shocking everyone, including his Srivalli. When Srivalli asks, “It’s all over, right?” Pushpa retorts, “Just started,” hinting at the possibility of a much deadlier face-off between him and his new rival.
With this, the movie ends on an ominous note as Bhanwar Singh challenges Pushpa, hinting at a bigger conflict and intense rivalry in the sequel, Pushpa 2: The Rule. Pushpa’s position is strong, but the battle with Bhanwar Singh promises high stakes and thrilling confrontations. The cliffhanger leaves curious viewers to see how Pushpa’s story unfolds in the next chapter.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM PUSHPA 2?
If one knows Pushpa, then you know that he is resilient, street-smart, and quick to find solutions, and, of course, a risk-taker. But one thing that ticks him off and stands out as his weakness is the fact that he doesn’t have a legacy. It is up to him to create one, for which he moves heaven and earth. Pushpa is born out of wedlock, which turns out to be his biggest weakness, with all the insults from Molleti Mohan, his stepbrother (played by Ajay), directed at him and his mother. Not having a father he could call his own pushed him to create a life that he envisioned for himself.
Another angle that could be explored in Pushpa: The Rule is the outrage and anger of Dakshayani (played by Anasuya Bharadwaj), the wife of smuggler Mangalam Srinu (played by Sunil), who holds a higher position in the sandalwood smuggling syndicate. After Pushpa brutally kills Dakshayani’s brother, she is filled with rage and determined to take her revenge on Pushpa. As she awaits the opportunity to strike back, she slits Srinu’s throat during an emotional confrontation with him over not punishing Pushpa for killing her brother.
Besides that, after the unexpected murder of Konda Reddy (played by Ajay Ghosh), his brother Jolly Reddy is ready for a head-on clash with Pushpa. Jolly, a womaniser in the film, eyes Srivalli and propositions her for a one-night stand. A confused and scared Srivalli finds refuge in Pushpa’s arms, where she confesses her ‘Peelings’ (read — feelings) for him for the first time. Moved by her emotions, Pushpa agrees to teach Jolly Reddy a lesson. After a physical altercation and a bloody fight, Jolly is left injured, with Pushpa wounding his male ego. A potential angle that could be explored in the film’s sequel is Pushpa and Jolly Reddy’s rivalry and how this might serve as an additional challenge in Pushpa’s life. Also, towards the end, after MP Bhumireddy (played by Rao Ramesh) appoints Pushpa Raj as the syndicate head, many dynamics change. These dynamics will be explored in Pushpa 2. On a lighter note, Pushpa’s life after his wedding to Srivalli will also be shown, with fans expecting more limelight on Srivalli.
And for all the Pushpa fans out there, Thaggede Le!
