The government is set to launch a pilot Family Card project in 14 upazilas to bring marginal and low-income families under social protection.

Under the pilot project, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the Family Card distribution on 10 March.

Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Minister Abu Zafar Md Zahid Hossain shared the information with journalists after a meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

Fourteen upazilas from different divisions have been selected for the initial phase. In each upazila, one ward of a union will be chosen for universal distribution of Family Cards.

He added that the programme will begin simultaneously in all selected upazilas on the designated day. Based on the experience of the pilot phase, the initiative will gradually be expanded nationwide.

The minister emphasised that there will be no political or religious discrimination in distributing the Family Cards, which are being introduced as a universal card on a trial basis.

The meeting at the Secretariat was chaired by the prime minister, with officials from relevant ministries and departments present.
