Renowned Lalon singer Farida Parveen has once again fallen critically ill and is currently undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Universal Medical College Hospital in Dhaka.
On Tuesday (September 2) night, she was rushed to the hospital after repeated vomiting. Following a series of medical tests, doctors decided to shift her to the ICU.
Family sources said that the best possible treatment measures are being taken. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs and several advisers have been in regular contact with her family regarding her condition.
According to hospital authorities, the artiste has long been suffering from multiple health complications. In addition to lung problems, she has been battling diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney issues, and thyroid-related complications.
Her condition became further complicated as vomiting and breathing difficulties intensified. News of her illness has caused deep concern among the music fraternity and her admirers, who are now praying for her recovery.
Earlier, in July this year, she had been admitted to the same hospital with deteriorating health and was directly placed in the ICU. At the time, multiple medical boards supervised her treatment until she recovered and was discharged on July 21.
Born on December 31, 1954, in Shawl village of Singra upazila in Natore, Farida Parveen grew up in Kushtia. She began her career in 1968 as a listed artiste at Rajshahi Betar, initially performing Nazrul songs. In 1973, she rose to popularity by singing patriotic songs. She later trained in Lalon songs under the guidance of mystic Mokshed Ali Shah.
For her contributions to music, Parveen received the Ekushey Padak and, in 2008, Japan’s Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize. She also won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 1993.
In addition, she established a music school called Achin Pakhi School to teach children Lalon songs.
