Ashraful Islam Joy:
Promising to increase the price of milk, Farida Akhter, Adviser to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock said, “The price of cow feed should not be higher than milk in any way. Farmers work hard to raise animals. If they do not get the right price for milk, there is no interest to establish dairy farms. Therefore, the price of milk would be increased soon.”
She came up with the remarks, while addressing a rally and view exchange meeting with the farmers (dairy farm owners) of Pragati Group (PG) under Livestock and Dairy Development Project (LDDP) at Potazia Raotara Bathan area near Sluice Gate in Shahzadpur upazila of Sirajganj district on Saturday afternoon.
Upazila Livestock Department and Veterinary Hospital jointly organized the programme.
Farida Akhter, Adviser to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock further said, “The livestock sector is very important for the country’s economy. To make the sector self-reliant, farms must be managed using modern methods of animal husbandry and business plans. The government stands by the farmers.”
“The Pabna-Sirajganj area has the largest number of animals in the country. The demand for meat and milk is met from this region in the country and even abroad. Therefore, vaccines must be provided to ensure that the animals in this region are free from diseases such as rabies and fever. The government is responsible for providing this vaccine. This is not a mercy, but rather the right of the farmers. The farmers will exercise their rights,” she added.
The Adviser also said, “Through the LDDP project, the government is working hard to increase the skills, productivity and access in markets for the farmers. This project is not just a development programme, but also a blueprint for a sustainable future.”
“The government’s effort will create a progressive sector by involving women in the livestock sector, using technology and developing farmers as entrepreneurs. The successful implementation of the LDDP will reduce the country’s dependence on imports for meat and milk production,” she said.
She also said, “We should work together forgetting discrimination so that the whole world can be told that the cattle of this region are healthy and their meat and milk are of excellent quality.”
The adviser stated that, the rights of the people have been established in this country through the July Movement. What the big political parties of the country could not do, the small children of our country have done. So, without suffering from inferiority complex about what happened before, you will achieve your rights.
The programme was presided over by Muhammad Nazrul Islam, Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Sirajganj, while Director General of the Department of Animal Resources Dr. Md. Abu Sufian, Extension Director Dr. Shamsunnahar Ahmed, Director ABM Abdur Razzak, LDDP Project Director Dr. Jasim Uddin and Rajshahi Divisional Director Dr. Anand Kumar Adhikari among others were also present there.
