Faruque Ahmed has refused to step down as president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) despite reported government pressure, intensifying concerns over political interference in the country’s cricket administration.

“No, I’m not resigning. There’s no reason for me to resign at the moment. They haven’t given me any explanation — so why should I step down?” Faruque told reporters when contacted on Thursday.

Former national captain and chief selector confirmed he was asked to resign but said he saw no valid grounds to comply. His stance is being seen by insiders as a rare show of defiance against alleged state meddling in BCB affairs.

The development has alarmed international observers, with the ICC maintaining a strict stance against political influence in cricket boards. Both Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka have previously faced suspensions over similar breaches.
