A bogie of the Mohua Express commuter train caught fire in Sreepur, Gazipur, on Thursday morning, disrupting rail communication on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route.
The train, bound for Mohonganj in Netrakona, departed from Dhaka’s Kamalapur Railway Station in the morning.
Around 10:30 am, the fire broke out in the last compartment near Satmakhair Railway Station in Sreepur upazila, according to a passenger.
In response, the train was halted, and the affected bogie was detached to prevent the fire from spreading further.
Joydebpur Rail Station Master Abul Khayer stated that train services on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route would resume once the damaged bogie is removed.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze shortly after it started.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, he added.
As of 12:30 pm, train communication on the route remained suspended.
