Sports Desk:
FM Tahsin Tajwar Zia, son of Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman (Zia) who departed on last Friday, qualified for the upcoming 44th Chess Olympiad.
The event will be held on 10-23 September in Budapest, Hungary and Bangladesh Chess Federation (BCF) will compete in both open and women’s categories.
A total of 10 chess players — top five from 48th National Chess Championship 2024 and top five from 42nd National Women Chess Championship 2024 — will represent Bangladesh in the meet.
Tahsin Zia became fifth as he won the first round of play-offs and narrowly drawing the second round against Anata Chowdhury after the last round of the national chess.
“I will participate in the Olympiad again, it feels good. But without father, the emptiness is always there,” said Tahsin.
