Ferry services between Daulatdia and Paturia terminals remained suspended for three and a half hours due to seasom’s first thick fog. The ferry service resumed after three hours at around 8:30 in the morning. Due to dense fog, launch movement in this waterway has also been disrupted.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) stated that thick fog generated sudddenly over the Padma river from early today, which disrupting the navigation. As the day progressed, the thickness of the fog increased. At one stage, the ferry service was stopped from 5:30 to avoid the risk of accidents due to not being able to see anything in the distance. Thick fog forced five ferries to anchor at the Daulatdia end and five at the Paturia ghat. Other ferries were kept floating near Paturia ghat. At around 8:30 in the morning, when the fog subsided, the ferry service resumed. For the first time this season due to thick fog, ferry services were suspended.
Assistant General Manager of Daulatdia Ghat branch of BIWTC, Salahuddin said, fog started falling on the Daulatdia-Paturia route after 5:00 in the morning. When the fog thickened, the beacon lights and marking points of the ferry channel could not be helped to nevigate the route. At this time, the ghat authorities stopped ferry movement to avoid accidents. After three hours at 8:30 am, the ferry service resumed.
