A demonstration was staged in Raiganj on Saturday demanding cancellation the dealership of Messrs. Mamata Traders owned by Mst. Momota Begum from Food-friendly programme for alleged irregularities.
The demonstrators held a protest rally at Dhamainagor union Parishad premises.
The beneficiaries of the food-friendly programme brought irregularities allegation against Messrs. Mamata Traders, proprietor of the food-friendly programme in Dhamainagar Union of the upazila.
According to the complaint of the victims, Mamata Begum collected Tk 300 per head from all the members, saying that new books would be provided to them. She also warned that their cards would be canceled if they could not pay.
Mamata Begum denied the allegations and said, “I did not take money in the name of giving books to any beneficiary. It is unrealistic.”
Md. Humayun Kabir, UNO of Raiganj said, “There is no provision of taking any money from the beneficiaries of the food-friendly programme. Action would be taken after investigation.”
