A Dhaka court on Wednesday denied bail to former MP Jannat Ara Henry of the Sirajganj-2 constituency in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Sabbir Foyez rejected her bail plea after a hearing. The ACC’s legal counsel, Mir Ahmed Ali Salam, opposed the bail application, arguing against her release.
According to the case, Henry is accused of illicitly acquiring assets worth Tk 57.13 crore and engaging in money laundering through suspicious transactions. The ACC claims to have found evidence of Tk 2,002.66 crore and 13.78 million US dollars in suspicious transactions across 35 of her bank accounts.
Henry was initially arrested on October 1 in Moulvibazar during a joint operation. She was subsequently placed on a seven-day remand in connection with three murder cases.
The ACC filed a separate case against her on December 23, and she was officially arrested in that case on January 13. Following the denial of bail, the court ordered her to be sent back to jail.
