Armed Police Battalion (APBn) detained four members of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) and recovered arms and ammunition from a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Sunday.
The detainees are – Amir Hossain, 29, son of Deen Mohammad of Block H-81, Camp-17; Ziaur Rahman, 32, son Fazal Karim of Block-H of same camp; Saydun Amin, 30, son of Abdus Salam of Block C-4 of Camp-4; and Md HJarun, 22, son of Badsha Mia of Block-A of Camp-7.
APBn-14 assistant commander and Superintendant of Police Md Arefin Jewel said they had information that some armed people had gathered in the Rohingya camp of extension number 20 of Ukhiya upazila to commit a crime.
Later, a team of APBn conducted raids in Ghayam Bagan outside the barbed wire boundary of Rohingya camp-20, Block S-1/B-7 in Ukhiya from 3am to 6am on Sunday, he added.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the ARSA men stared firing and in retaliation APBn member opened fire. Later, they detained four members of the terrorist group and seized four hand grenades, seven locally-made guns, two walkie-talkie with chargers, nine rounds of bullets, two locally-made sharp weapons, and halmates.
There are number of cases on many offences, including murder, extortion, against the detainees with different police stations, the assistant commander said.
