TDS Desk:
After the arrest of popular content creator Tawhid Afridi, his close associate and fellow creator Tanvir Rahi has publicly revealed details of Afridi’s alleged misdeeds. Once widely known as Afridi’s close friend, Rahi described him as “dangerous” in a viral video interview that has drawn wide attention on social media.
Rahi claimed that he and many other content creators across the country were victims of Afridi’s blackmail. “On camera Afridi is one person, but in private life he is completely different—off camera he is a dangerous man. In the YouTube industry, everyone fears him like a tiger,” Rahi said.
He recalled facing Afridi’s wrath during the anti-discrimination student movement, when many creators opposed Afridi’s stance. “When he got angry, he would take off his belt and beat us like dogs, as if we were not human beings but pets,” Rahi alleged.
According to Rahi, Afridi would often use members of law enforcement or political figures to intimidate content creators. “Whenever he felt someone was working against him, he would make a phone call to show his power,” Rahi said. He recounted an incident a few months after the movement when Afridi video-called him late at night. “I was scared. He said, ‘I’ll let you talk to someone who will soon become an important figure in the country.’ Then he connected me to VP Nur. Afterwards he told me, ‘Now you understand my position? Be careful.’”
Rahi further alleged that Afridi’s character was devoid of humanity. “He has no compassion, only thoughts of revenge. Who to catch, who to beat—that’s all he thinks about. God never spares such people,” he said.
Afridi was arrested on Sunday night (August 24) in a special CID raid at Banglabazar in Barishal city. He was detained in connection with a murder case filed at Jatrabari Police Station during the anti-discrimination student movement. The following day, a Dhaka court granted a five-day remand for his interrogation.
