Aiming to strengthen bilateral relations and keep fruit “diplomacy alive,” Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha gifted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina 500kg of a special variety of queen pineapple on Sunday.
Tripura Horticulture Assistant Director Dr Dipak Baidya handed over 600 pieces of Tripura’s famous pineapples packed in 100 cartons to Akhaura land port Revenue Officer Abdul Kaiyum Talukdar.
Dr Dipak Baidya said: “It is a goodwill and friendly gesture from our state. Chief Minister Manik Saha sent the pineapples to the prime minister of Bangladesh to strengthen bilateral relations.”

Representatives along with immigration officers from both countries were present there.
In July 2022, the largest consignment of pineapples sent to Bangladesh as a gift after the Bharatiya Janata Party formed the government in the Indian state in 2018. The Tripura government sent the state’s widely popular crop to Bangladesh as a goodwill gesture.
