Global fuel markets have remained volatile amid the ongoing Iran war, contributing to a steady increase in prices
TDS Desk:
The government has increased fuel oil prices at the consumer level, citing a rise in global market rates.
The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources announced the decision in a gazette notification on Saturday.
Under the new rates, octane has been raised by Tk 20 to Tk 140 per litre. Petrol will now cost Tk 135 per litre, diesel Tk 115 per litre, and kerosene Tk 130 per litre.
According to the notification, signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Enamul Haque, the adjustment was made to align domestic prices with international markets. The new rates will take effect from April 19.
Global fuel markets have remained volatile amid the ongoing Iran war, contributing to a steady increase in prices. The situation has also affected the domestic market, with reports of long queues and fuel shortages in several areas.
The latest hike comes despite the government’s assurance earlier this month that prices would remain unchanged for the time being.
