They said that, as a result of climate change, the life and livelihood of the people of the grasslands, houses, agricultural crops, livestock, education, health care and employment are constantly being affected. Now there are frequent and untimely floods, rains and droughts. The land does not produce crops as before.

The tendency of river erosion has increased. Many have lost their cropland and habitat and have taken refuge in other people’s houses. The poor working people have lost their livelihood and become unemployed. And due to these reasons, violence against women and child marriage are increasing. Children especially girls are being deprived of education and treatment.

The speakers strongly urged the government to take necessary measures and possible ways to get rid of these problems and live a healthy life.

Members of upazila and union level climate action groups of the (CREA) project and members of various groups at village level, men and women, teenagers and local dignitaries spoke on the occasion.

It is to be mentioned that, the project is being implemented by the Manusher Jonno Foundation and the National Development Program (NDP) with support from the Government of Sweden. This year’s theme of the day was to “fight for a future free of fossil fuels”.
