Gold prices in Bangladesh have reached a new record, with 22-carat gold rising by Tk5,342 to Tk1,77,887 per bhori (11.664 grams), the highest ever in the country.

The Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring of the Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) made the decision at a meeting on Tuesday, citing the price hike of pure gold in the local market.

This fresh hike comes just a day after the price of the precious yellow metal skyrocketed to Tk1,72,545 per bhori.

As per the new rate, the price of 22-carat gold will now be Tk15,251 per gram, and 21-carat Tk14,558 per gram.

The price of 18-carat gold has been fixed at Tk12,478 a gram while that of traditional gold at Tk10,332 per gram.

New prices will come into effect on Wednesday, according to a press release signed by Masudur Rahman, chairman of the committee.

Meanwhile, prices of silver have also increased in the local market.

The price of 22-carat silver is now Tk244 per gram, 21-carat Tk233, 18-carat Tk200, and traditional one is Tk150 per gram.
