Gono Odhikar Parishad led by Nurul Haq Nur has been registered as a political party with the Election Commission (EC).

The EC headed by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal on Monday declared Gono Odhikar Parishad as a registered political party paving the way for its participation in elections.

The commission allocated ‘truck’ as the party’s election symbol with the registration number 51.

A gazette notification signed by EC Secretary Shafiul Azim said the commission made it a registered political party until further order as per the Representation of the People Order, 1972.

Gono Odhikar Parishad headed by the former vice-president (VP) of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) applied to the Election Commissioner seeking registration before the 12th parliamentary election held on 7 January 2024. It was rejected at that time citing no reason.
