The interim government has changed the names of Bangabandhu Bridge over the Jamuna River and the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel under the Karnaphuli River.

The name of the Bangabandhu Bridge was changed to Jamuna Bridge, while the name of the Bangabandhu Tunnel was replaced with Karnaphuli Tunnel, according to a circular issued by the Bridges Division on Wednesday (February 26).

Bangabandhu Bridge started its journey on 23 June 1998. Many call it Jamuna Bridge due to its location over the Jamuna River.

On the other hand, the Bangabandhu Tunnel under the Karnaphuli River in Chattogram was inaugurated by the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 28 October 2023.
