Youth and Sports Adviser to the interim government Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan said that infrastructure projects undertaken by the government will no longer be named after politicians.

He made the remark during an exchange of views with officials from the Satkhira Department of Youth Development and District Sports Organization on Friday night.

Asif said: “Whenever Bangalees focus on public issues, the fascist Awami League government diverts our attention by inciting communal riots or divisions. The government of Sheikh Hasina has tried to exploit religion for political purposes.”

He emphasized that communal harmony is a hallmark of Bangladesh, and while certain groups attempt to destroy it, the people of Satkhira have maintained peace.

“People of Satkhira are peaceful, and everyone must play a responsible role to maintain this trend of harmony,” he added.

Asif further mentioned that there are forces attempting to disrupt communal harmony, but the government will not allow that to happen.

“You have seen how maximum security was ensured during this year’s Durga Puja. However, the public also has a role to play in ensuring security,” he said.

He encouraged the residents of Satkhira to strive for success in all fields, particularly in sports.

“Politics has influenced the sports sector in the past, but we are working on depoliticizing it. While a person may have a political identity, it should not interfere in sports,” he remarked.

Asif also announced that the mini stadium being built in Debhata upazila, previously named Sheikh Russell Mini Stadium, will be renamed.

“Government infrastructure will not bear the names of political figures. They will be named after our national heroes and martyrs. The mini stadium in Debhata will be renamed ‘Shaheed Asif Stadium’,” he declared.

Earlier, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, along with his tour companions, arrived at Satkhira Circuit House on Friday evening, where they were welcomed by Deputy Commissioner Mostak Ahmed and Superintendent of Police Monirul Islam with flowers.

A discussion meeting followed at the deputy commissioner’s conference room with the Youth Development Department and District Sports Organization officials.

Later that night, Asif Mahmud visited several places of worship and exchanged greetings with local leaders and community members.

In a separate meeting at the Circuit House on Friday night, political leaders of Satkhira presented the challenges they have faced under 15 years of what they described as “misrule and discrimination” by the former Awami League government. Asif Mahmud assured them that the interim government would address these issues promptly.
