The interim government has reintroduced price controls for eggs and poultry to address rising costs. The new rates will be effective from tomorrow (Wednesday).

The Department of Livestock Services (DLS) announced new prices for all stages of the supply chain today, in a bid to stabilise the market amid ongoing floods in northeastern and eastern Bangladesh.

Revised rates:

Eggs: Tk11.87 per egg (retail), Tk10.58 (producer), and Tk11.01 (wholesale).

Golden chicken: Tk269.64 per kg (retail), Tk260.78 (producer), and Tk264.57 (wholesale).

Broiler chicken: Tk179.59 per kg (retail), Tk168.91 (producer), and Tk172.61 (wholesale).

Currently, eggs are retailing between Tk55 and Tk60 for half a dozen, while a dozen costs between Tk160 and Tk170, varying by location.

However, previous attempts to control egg, onion, and potato prices failed under the deposed Awami League government, leaving consumers frustrated. Authorities hope this round of regulation will yield better results.
