Govt to buy 1.10cr litres edible oil, 10,000 MTs lentil, 1lakh MTs fertilizer

The government will purchase 1.10 crore litres of edible oil, 10,000 metric tons (MTs) of lentil and 1,00,000 MTs of fertilizer to meet the growing demand of the country.

The procurement proposals, presented by the commerce, industries and agriculture ministries, were approved in a meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement (ACCGP) held at the Cabinet Division conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka on Thursday.

Finance adviser to the interim government Dr Salehuddin Ahmed was in the chair.

According to the commerce ministry proposal, the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will purchase 1.10 crore litres of soybean oil under local Open Tender Method (OTM) from Super Oil Refinery Limited at Tk 171.95 per litre, amounting to Tk 189.14 crore.

Additionally, the TCB will buy 10,000 MTs of lentil from Shabnam Vegetable Oil Industries Limited under OTM at Tk 94.95 per kilogram (Kg), totaling Tk 94.95 crore.

According to a proposal from the industries ministry, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) will purchase some 30,000 MTs of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Qatar Energy Marketing under the 8th lot with around Tk 127.68 crore, with per ton fertilizer costing $354.67.

Besides, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) under the Ministry of Agriculture will procure 40,000 MTs of DAP fertilizer under state-level agreement from MA’ADEN, Saudi Arabia at $617 per ton fertilizer, totaling Tk 296.16 crore.

In response to another proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, BADC would procure 30,000 MTs of TSP fertilizer under state-level agreement from OCP NUTRICROPS SA, Morocco at $440 per ton fertilizer, amounting to Tk 158.40 crore.
