The government has approved the purchase of 3 crore 30 lakh litres of edible oil for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB). Of this, 2 crore 20 lakh litres of soybeans and 1 crore 10 lakh litres of rice bran oil are included.

This oil will be procured locally through an open tender (national) system at the cost of 493 crore 14 lakh 10 thousand taka.

The Cabinet Committee meeting on Government Procurement held under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali at the Secretariat on Saturday approved the proposal to increase the new expenditure.

At the end of the meeting, the Secretary of Coordination and Reform of the Cabinet Department Mahmudul Hossain Khan told reporters that the government has approved the proposal for the purchase of 2 crore 20 lakh litres of soybean oil for the TCB through open tender (national) system (OTM) locally. The total cost will be 331 crore 5 lakh 60 thousand taka. The price of oil per litre will be Tk 150.48, which was Tk 150.90 earlier. The recommended bidder is City Edible Well Limited.

In another proposal of the Ministry of Commerce, the government has approved the proposal to purchase 1 crore 10 lakh litres of rice bran oil for TCB through the open re-tendering (national) method (OTM) locally at the cost of 162 crore 8 lakh 50 thousand taka. The price of oil per litre will be 147.35 taka, which was earlier 151 taka 25 taka. The recommended bidder is Majumdar Products Limited.
