TDS Desk:

Bangladesh will engage in discussions with India to secure its rightful share of water from the common rivers, including the Teesta, said Forest and Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Wednesday.

“We will decide our next steps on the Teesta issue, considering the overall interest of our people, just as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee considers it for her own country in this regard,” she said.

While talking to the journalists at her Secretariat office in Dhaka this noon, Rezwana Hasan said the government will soon undertake an action plan based on the opinions of the people living on the Teesta River’s bank.

“We will raise the Teesta issue in the international area keeping friendly relations with India,” said the adviser.

About the worsening impact of environment pollution, she said her government will initiate pragmatic steps before the winter season in a bid to reduce air pollution in and around the capital, Dhaka.

As part of the action, the government will stop illegal brickfields in several adjoining areas of the capital and prohibit carrying bricks and sand on open trucks, she said.
