Staff Reporter:

Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan on Tuesday told Parliament that the government is actively working to identify and rectify irregularities in the list of freedom fighters and the distribution of their allowances during the previous “fascist” regime.

Replying to a supplementary question from BNP lawmaker Zainul Abdin Farroque, Minister Azam assured that the corrected and authentic list of freedom fighters would be presented to the nation once the review is completed.

Farroque had raised concerns about whether any upazila-level Muktijoddha Bhaban structures had been constructed in the past 17 years and noted that many BNP-aligned freedom fighters were reportedly denied allowances during that period.

He asked whether the government would take steps to address these issues.

In response, Minister Azam said his ministry had received numerous allegations regarding suspension of freedom fighter certificates, harassment of genuine freedom fighters and the inclusion of ineligible individuals on the list who received allowances and other benefits illegally.

He emphasized that the ministry is working to correct these discrepancies and ensure that genuine freedom fighters receive their rightful recognition and benefits.

Tuesday’s parliamentary session began at 3:30 PM under the chairmanship of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad.
