The government will take necessary decisions by presenting all reasons to the public if their functioning is rendered impossible, the Advisory Council said on Saturday (May 24).
“The interim government embodies public expectations of the July uprising. However, if actions that hinder the government’s independence, reform initiatives, judicial process, free elections, regular operations and make it impossible to carry out its responsibilities, the government will take necessary decisions with the people’s support,” the Advisory Council said in a statement.
The statement reads, “If the fulfillment of responsibilities imposed on the government is made impossible through the instigation of defeated forces and as part of foreign conspiracies, the government will present all reasons to the public and then take the necessary decisions.”
An unscheduled meeting of the Advisory Council was held today, following the session of the National Economic Council.
The meeting included detailed discussions on the three primary responsibilities assigned to the interim government: elections, reforms, and justice.
The meeting took place at the Planning Commission in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, under the chairmanship of Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.
The statement further said the Advisory Council discussed in detail how “irrational demands, motivated and unauthorised statements and programmes are repeatedly disrupting the normal working environment, creating confusion and doubt among the public, and obstructing carrying out these responsibilities.”
The Advisory Council said it believes that broader unity is essential to maintain national stability, advance the processes of election, justice, and reform, and to permanently prevent the return of autocracy in this country.
The council stated that the interim government will listen to the position of political parties on these matters and clarify its own stance.
“Despite numerous obstacles, the interim government continues to fulfill its responsibilities, disregarding vested interests,” reads the statement.
