The government will not protect anyone as the law will take its own course, said Salman F Rahman, over the corruption of former Chief of Army Staff Aziz Ahmed and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed.

Rahman, Private Industry and Investment Affairs advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this while talking to reporters at the secretariat in Dhaka on Wednesday.

“I don’t believe that the government would feel embarrassment at Aziz and Benazir issues,” Rahman responded to a journalist.

Echoing the voice of Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Rahman said, “No matter how influential the wrongdoers are, the law will take its own course.”

Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman said that the government will not give any kind of protection to anyone regarding the corruption allegations of former army chief Aziz Ahmed and police chief Benazir Ahmed. The law will run at its own pace.

Earlier, he presided over the third meeting of the National Committee formed to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment in factories, industries and commercial establishments. Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman is the chairman of the committee.

The issue of “corruption” by the former army chief and police chief is being discussed. In response to the query whether the government is embarrassed by this issue – the PM adviser replied, “Awami League General Secretary has clearly said that if anyone breaks the law, action will be taken against them. I do not believe there will be any embarrassing situation for the Government here. The law will run at its own pace. What he said is that no matter how influential the person is, the government will not give any kind of protection to anyone.”

When the issue of the murder of a Bangladeshi parliamentarian in India drew attention, this advisor said, “We are all very shocked about this. As you know, the incident is under investigation. I don’t think it would be right to comment on this until the investigation is over.”

When asked if there will be any “new discomfort” in the price of commodities after the budget, Salman F. Rahman said, “It is a hypothetical question. What will happen in the budget, what will happen after the budget, whether we will be healthy or sick, I can answer that after seeing the budget.”

In the meeting chaired by Salman F. Rahman, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Local Government Rural Development and Cooperative Minister Md. Tajul Islam, Industry Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam and related senior officials were present.
