Police arrested an elderly woman from Brahmangram village under Enayetpur police station in Sirajganj district on Saturday on charge of killing her granddaughter.

The arrested grandmother was identified as Lalbanu, 60, wife of late Shukur Ali Sarker of the mentioned village.

Anarul Islam, Officer in Charge of Enayetpur police station said, “She was picked up from her home in a case filed on Saturday noon by Nahid Alam of Patisor village in Atrai upazila of Naogaon district and also father of the deceased Nazia Akhter Laboni, 8.

According to the case statement, Nahid used to serve in Dhaka and his daughter Laboni had been living at her grandmother house in Brahmangram village along with her mentally sick mother Nargis Khatun for the last three years.

At one stage on Friday last, the accused Lalbanu with the help of others suffocated Laboni to death centering a trifling matter.
