In a series of retaliatory actions, hostilities between the two countries have reached a near-breaking point, with gunfire exchanged between their military forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated following a militant attack in Indian-administered Kashmir.

According to an NDTV report published on Friday, the incident occurred along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistani troops reportedly fired at an Indian Army post late on Thursday night, to which Indian forces responded with counterfire.

Indian military sources have said that there were no casualties in the incident.

Indian officials described the gunfire as coming from small arms at various locations, adding that they had “responded appropriately” to the attack.

The shooting incident comes at a time when India-Pakistan relations have been further strained following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where 26 people were killed, including a Nepalese citizen.

In the aftermath of the attack, both countries have taken a series of tough measures against each other.

Following the attack, India and Pakistan announced a range of retaliatory actions, including closure of the Wagah-Attari border post, which serves as a key border crossing between the two nations. Both countries also expelled military officials from one another’s embassies.

In a significant diplomatic move, India announced on Wednesday that it would revoke visas issued to Pakistani nationals under the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) visa-exemption scheme.

In response, Pakistan declared on Thursday that it would cancel visas for Indian nationals as well.

Moreover, India has suspended the Indus Water Treaty, which governs water-sharing between the two countries. Pakistan, in turn, has suspended all bilateral agreements with India and closed its airspace to Indian flights.
