Habibur Rahman Sohan hit the fastest century by a Bangladeshi in a T20 fixture, smashing an unbeaten 100 off just 35 balls in Bangladesh ‘A’ team’s dominating eight-wicket win over Hong Kong in their opening Group A match of the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 in Doha on Saturday.
Habibur broke the record previously held by Parvez Hossain Emon, who had hit a 42-ball ton in a Bangabandhu T20 Cup match in December 2020 in Dhaka.
Before reaching the three-figure mark with the help of eight fours and 10 sixes, Habibur had broken the record for the quickest half-century in T20s by a Bangladeshi as well. He completed his 50 off 14 balls, breaking the record of Shuvagata Hom, who had done it in 16 balls in the Dhaka Premier League T20 in 2019.
Other than Habibur, skipper Akbar Ali also tore apart the Honk Kong attack, hitting five sixes in a row to finish on an unbeaten 41 off 13 balls as Bangladesh ‘A’ reached 171-2 in just 11 overs after Hong Kong had put up 167-8 after being asked to bat first.
Bangladesh will next face Afghanistan ‘A’ on November 17.
