Bangladeshi midfielder Hamza Choudhury is on the brink of playing in the English Premier League once again, after helping Sheffield United reach the Championship play-off final with a dominant 3-0 win over Bristol City at Bramall Lane on Tuesday.

With this emphatic result, Sheffield completed a 6-0 aggregate victory in the semi-finals and now head to Wembley, just one win away from securing a return to the Premier League.

The final will be played on 24 May against either Sunderland or Coventry City.

For Bangladeshi football fans, all eyes were on Hamza who put in yet another rock-solid performance in midfield, reinforcing his growing reputation as a dependable presence at the heart of the team.

The 26-year-old played the full 90 minutes and was flawless in his role: completing 41 of 44 attempted passes, recording 60 touches, and maintaining a calm presence throughout. He won four out of five tackles, was never dispossessed, made six key defensive actions, and recovered possession twice — anchoring the Blades midfield with maturity and poise. Hamza’s contribution wasn’t just in the numbers.

When Bristol City started brightly and dominated the early minutes, it was Hamza’s positioning and pressing that helped United regain control.  From there, they never looked back.

Wales international Kieffer Moore opened the scoring in the 41st minute with a towering header from a corner, despite complaints from the Bristol City keeper.

Gustavo Hamer doubled the lead seven minutes into the second half, his strike deflecting off Ross McCrorie to leave the goalkeeper wrong-footed.

Callum O’Hare added the final goal in the 83rd minute after a fine cross from Tyrese Campbell.

The result was a massive boost for manager Chris Wilder’s side, who are determined to return to the top flight at the first attempt following last season’s relegation. Wilder, in his second spell at the club, praised the team’s performance and the atmosphere at Bramall Lane:

“You’ve got to enjoy nights like this… performances like today — from every player, especially Hamza — show how far we’ve come,” he said.

Hamza shared his emotions after the match on social media, posting: “Alhamdulillah, such an enjoyable night! One massive push to go… see you all at Wembley.”

Now, with one last hurdle left, Hamza’s Sheffield are just 90 minutes away from top-tier football — and Bangladeshis will be cheering him on, all the way to Wembley.
