A murder case has been filed against 25 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, in connection with the shooting and killing of garment worker Sohel Rana in the city’s Adabar area, during the Boishommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon movement.
Ibrahim, the brother of Sohel, had applied to file the case on Tuesday morning. Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sultan Sohag Uddin accepted the plaintiff’s statement, and ordered the Adabor Police Station to take the complaint.
The other accused in the case include former bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, jute and textiles minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, former lawmaker Sadek Khan, Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas, his elder brother Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman, former Additional Commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid, former Additional Joint Commissioner Biplab Kumar, Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain, General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan, Dhaka Metropolitan North President Riaz Mahmud, Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League President Sheikh Bajlur Rahman, Adabar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahbub Rahman, SI Masum Billah and Md Rashid.
According to the case documents, Sohel Rana was shot dead by the police in front of Adabor police station on the orders of the accused during the Boishommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon movement.
