Hasina, family under scrutiny: ACC targets mega projects, seeks financial data

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sought financial records of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her family members as well as documents related to eight mega projects following allegations of fund mismanagement and misuse amounting to Tk21,000 crore.

ACC Deputy Director Md Salahuddin sent an official letter to the Chief Adviser’s Office requesting the documents on Tuesday.

The information has been asked to be provided by January 7.

The letter states that Hasina and others are under investigation for alleged abuse of power and corruption during the implementation of eight projects including the Mirsharai Economic Zone, Khurushkul Special Ashrayan Project, Ashrayan Project-2, BEPZA Economic Zone, Mirsharai First Phase, water treatment and deep tube well installation at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial City, two modern fire stations in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial City and the Indian Economic Zone in Mirsharai as well as the development of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial City (BSMSN).

The ACC asked for certified copies of proposals, estimates, approved budgets, disbursements, expenditures and current project statuses.

Additionally, any observation or investigation reports and separate project summaries are to be provided.

The allegations include the misuse of funds under the guise of implementing these high-profile projects.
