BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has accused ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of abandoning the country and leaving it in peril.

Speaking at an electoral public outreach in Begunbari Union’s BD High School ground in Thakurgaon-1 on Monday afternoon, Fakhrul said, “Earlier, we had Awami League and BNP. This time, Awami League is gone.”

“The boat’s (Awami League’s symbol) captain, former prime minister Hasina, has left you and gone to India. She sits in Delhi and has left us in peril, hasn’t she? Otherwise, at least some democratic order would have prevailed” he added.

He also criticised Jamaat, saying “Those who aided the Pakistani forces and killed thousands of our people are now seeking votes again. The party that does not believe in our country or in independence should not be voted for, as doing so would ruin the nation.”

In this context, Fakhrul believes that had the Awami League participated alongside other parties, the country’s democratic space would have been maintained.

The public outreach was attended by BNP leaders and supporters, including Sadar Upazila BNP President Abdul Hamid.
