The trial against Sheikh Hasina, the dictator ousted in the July mass uprising, for crimes against humanity, is progressing at the pace needed, said Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, Tajul Islam.

He said this in response to a question from journalists at the International Crimes Tribunal on Monday.

Tajul Islam said, “The trial is progressing at the pace needed for it. We are maintaining both the speed of settling this case as soon as possible and maintaining all the standards of justice. There is no reason to worry about how long it takes.”

He said, “The trial must be completed through justice. That is why it is not possible to finish the trial of the case in a hurry like in a mobile court. The court will decide how quickly the rest of the trial process will proceed. We are not taking more than a day, nor will we. We will do what is necessary to complete the trial in a timely manner. The rest will depend on the court’s proceedings.”

A hearing will be held on Tuesday on whether to charge Sheikh Hasina with crimes against humanity during the mass uprising.
