Agitating teachers and students of Hazi Wahed Mariam Degree College in Chandaikona of Raiganj upazila in Sirajganj district on Monday formed a human chain on the Dhaka-Bogura highway adjacent to the college campus protesting alleged corruptions and irregularities of its former acting principal (vice-principal) Lutfar Rahman.

The demonstrators also brought out a procession that marched the highway led by the incumbent principal Aminul Islam. Some local residents also took part in the demonstrations to make the movement vibrant.

Speakers at the human chain said, former acting principal of the college Lutfar Rahman, who has been suspended temporarily, was involved with massive corruptions and irregularities during his regime. He embezzled huge amount of government money preparing fake bills-vouchers. Besides, he was engaged in different controversial activities in the college.

A case is already pending against him at the ACC. The demonstrators alleged that, he has recently been trying to tarnish the reputation of the institution by providing false and baseless information to the media against the college and its stakeholders.

The demonstrators demand permanent suspension of the teacher and exemplary punishment for his offenses.

It is to be mentioned that, Lutfar Rahman earlier brought allegation of realizing Tk 10 lakh as extortion against BNP nominated candidate Aynul Haque, who is expected to race for Sirajganj-3 (Raiganj-Tarash) constituency. In a written complaint, Lutfar demanded that Aynul took Tk 10 lakh and demanded more Tk 10 lakh as extortion from him promising to make a settlement over returning to his position of the college. As he refused to pay the demanded money, he was threatened by Aynul and his men in many ways.
