Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that the issues arising from Sunday’s situation will be resolved soon.
He urged everyone to remain patient and handle the situation calmly.
He made these comments on Monday after a core committee meeting on law and order at the Ministry of Home Affairs, addressing the clashes between Dhaka University (DU) students and students of the seven affiliated colleges, including Dhaka College.
The adviser urged students to avoid programs that cause public suffering, suggesting that such demonstrations be held at Suhrawardy Udyan instead.
At the same meeting, Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul described the previous day’s incident as unfortunate and assured that the government is working to control the matter..
Following the meeting, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali stated that police handled last night’s clashes between DU and the affiliated college students with patience. He emphasized that no lethal weapons were used, only sound grenades and tear gas, which prevented bloodshed.
He assured that the situation would return to normal by on Monday.
